The Moroccan Association of Toronto invites you to the screening of two Moroccan movies on Saturday April 4 at1pm and 3pm as part of Cinéfranco film festival 2009.

Hands And Cloth (Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 1:00PM):
Directed by Omar Chraïbi
Starring   Tarik Bakhari, Rim Chemaou, Raouia, Zakaria Lahlou

Synopsis: Mnaouer, a gifted young puppeteer, goes to Casablanca in order to pursue acting classes, with the benediction of the chief (hilarious) of his little village. Confronted by a new universe that is strange and rich, Mnaouer discovers a sense of purpose in his life and his art. Starting from a factual event, Omar Chraïbi weaves a moving story, paced with laughing and tears. The actors illuminate the fitting comic and dramatic aspects of this tale, imbued with humanism and a profound reflection on the role of the artist, movingly symbolized by Mnaouer.

A delicious film, with a humorous irreverence towards con artists!

The lost beauty (Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 3:00PM):
Directed by Lahcen Zinoun
Starring   Sanaa Alaoui, Mohamed Miftah, Hanane Zouhdi, Chams-Eddine Zinoun, Touria Jabrane, Mohamed Afifi, Hassan Sqalli

Synopsis: Oud l'Ward, a slave who is a gifted lutenist, is sold to a rich music master, who decides to make her his student. Her success with the rich music-lovers of Fez, turns out to be a poisoned gift. The other slaves, the master's wives, and the master himself become ferociously jealous, and turn on her.
"The light that the filmmaker sheds on this little known period of Moroccan history [1913] is emotionally moving for the viewer, while certain scenes make one think of Delacroix." (F-Z. Tahiri)

A masterpiece both for its enchanting aesthetic beauty and brilliant actors, and the refinement of its filmmaker, Lahcen Zinoun!
